The Founder

This is the result of the Instinctual Core sensing a threat to what it falsely identifies as a necessity for survival, hijacking the subconscious, like a fire alarm going off when there is no fire.

He suddenly realized that he never actually chose to become addicted to alcohol, any more than someone with an overactive immune system chooses to develop asthma, and that the solution lay not in accepting guilt, but in simple neuroscience, and behavioral conditioning.

By learning to recognize this alarm system as separate from his identity, and what he genuinely knew he wanted in life, Roger chose to retrain it in a way similar to how a parent trains a child, recognizing genuine threats from false positives.

Suddenly, everything changed, as he instantly transformed from a prisoner consumed by shame to a mechanic fixing a simple malfunction, without fear, shame, or embarrassment. The results were extraordinary. Now clean for the better part of a decade, he has become a successful entrepreneur and adventurer, embracing life as a free man. His life, no longer bound to alcohol, is enriched by a newfound curiosity for new ideas, the appreciation for the life and world we have gave been given, and an engaging attitude to venture into life.

But Roger is not alone. Recognizing that the same principles that saved him could be applied to help others struggling with addiction and other mental health challenges, he realized the potential to grow his method into something far more profound.

Thus, The Instinctual Center came into being, as he met others, whose stories aligned with his own, and we continue to grow, every day, as we find more people ready to change the narrative, liberate themselves from their Instinctual Core, and embrace true freedom, to live their lives as they deserve.

The Instinctual Core (IC) Solution was founded by Roger Andresen, a man whose life has been dedicated to mental health and addiction recovery, having lived through the very struggles he aims to help others overcome. Roger is the first to admit that his battle with alcoholism was severe, leading him through a seemingly endless cycle that saw him in and out of rehabs, and detox centers, 16 times over a seven-year period.

He attended over 500 support group meetings and countless therapy sessions, but could not find a lasting solution to his addiction. Just when his life seemed destined to end in tragedy, however, he made a ground breaking discovery.

He realized that this seemingly unstoppable compulsion, driving him to drink, despite his best efforts, was not truly his own at all. It was coming from a source far older, the parts of the human brain responsible for instinctual, survival drives, that we all have, and have done for millions of years. We call this mechanism, the Instinctual Core, and it is the most powerful psychological drive known to neuroscience.

This revelation was a turning point that ultimately saved Roger’s life, as he realized that what holds so many people like him back, is their propensity for self-sabotage, the acceptance of guilt, shame, and doubt, undermining progress, and perpetuating a sense of hopelessness and futility.

Our Mission

At the core of our mission is our commitment to empower people, by helping them understand and separate their identity from their Instinctual Core. We provide accessible, effective, and scientifically backed tools that enable people to take control of their mental health and well-being.

Our goal is to eliminate the unnecessary, and counter-productive stigma too commonly associated with mental health, by demonstrating that many of these issues are not personal failings at all, but rather the result of millions of years of evolution, thrown into a modern world that our brains have simply not yet adapted to without help.

We offer these resources freely, striving to help as many people as possible, to overcome their insecurities and lead holistically healthier, happier lives.

We are certainly not a replacement for doctors, psychotherapists, and other healthcare professionals; to the contrary, we work alongside yours. Where they expertly treat diseases and conditions, reacting to medical diagnoses, with the aim of making the dysfunctional functional, our aim is to add to this, by supporting your recovery, and then making the functional optimal, and strong.

In essence, we are the psychology equivalent of a nutritionist or fitness instructor. We believe it is not enough to merely fix a problem, our goal is to sustain that change and prevent it from ever happening again.

About The Team

Our team is a diverse group of Mentors, Researchers, and Writers, who are united by a shared vision of transforming proactive mental healthcare. We combine the latest scientific research with real-world experience, to develop and refine the IC Solution, and we want to make this accessible to all.

In addition to expertise from lived experience, our team also actively keeps themselves up to date with the latest publications in psychology, philosophy, and behavioral science, ensuring that our approach is always grounded in the best literature and evidence available to us.

However, it is the invaluable insights from their own personal journeys that set us apart, creating a compassionate and relatable support system for our users, as we remember all too well what it is like to be where you are.

Together, we are dedicated to guiding individuals on their path not just to recovery, but growth and development, and a sense of tangible purpose.
